Only love, dissected

July 24th, 2011

Industrialist and famed lyricist Basanta Chaudhary’s fourth album “Only Love”, which took two years to complete, includes 11 songs all composed by Chaudhary himself and music by Nhyoo Bajracharya.

Released three months ago the album is doing well in the charts/ airwaves.

“I put my thoughts into simple words and then go about writing the songs. And it is a tough job for any artist to self assess their own work, hence a discussion as such is very important for the personal growth,” said industrialist Basant Chaudhary; and this was the very reason why a discussion programme was conducted at Nepal Tourism Board premises on July 19.

Attended by various media personalities and singers from the album Ram Krishna Dhakal, Reema Gurung Hoda, Shreya Sotang and Hemant Rana, the discussion was conducted by senior lyricist Kiran Kharel, Biswombher Pyakurel, musician Nhyoo Bajracharya and Chaudhary, himself.

Pyakurel and Kharel unanimously praised Chaudhary’s lyrical prowess, “Basant has been able to express the different shades of love in a few lines.”

Pyakurel, however had some critical remarks, “I feel that Shreya Ghoshal and Kailash Kher could have done much better, we failed to exploit these singers phenomenal vocal range.”

The event was not limited to just discussions, though. There were some musical performance at the end by Hemant Rana, Reema Gurung Hoda and Ram Krishna Dhakal, who sang their respective songs from the album - Maun Chha Adhar, Timro Naam Japera and Aankhabhitra Thuniyera.

The event saw exchange of views and Chaudhary answered some of the queries himself and thanked the attendees for their time. “We have discussions on books, movies, but never on music. Such dialogues offer artists a different perspective of their work.”
