5th June is World Environment Day, what does that really mean? It means being sensitive to the changes in the environment and knowing that we are responsible for it. ‘Biodiversity — Ecosystems Management and the Green Economy ‘, is the theme for this year’s World Environment Day.

Created to celebrate the first United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, held in Stockholm on June 5th 1972, this was the occasion that marked the first international cooperation between governments on problems relating to the global environment – with the intention of taking remedial action. The date is jam packed with activities, with numerous events taking place globally to mark this day and speaking of which, closer to home it definitely looks celebration time in Baneshwor. Frequency Investments in collaboration with Party Kathmandu Events P. Ltd., Positive Vibes, EnvOrgs, Kathmandu University School of Arts is organizing – “Street Fest Baneshwor 10”.

Various inter college competitions related to environmental awareness have already kicked off, and the to do list includes mural art, photo exhibition, art with celebrities, community theater, documentary competition, eco-friendly rally to name few. And if you need any more incentive, might we suggest the concert taking place June 5th, Saturday at Baneshwor? The crux of the biscuit, “Carbon Neutral Concert” is the gig to attend.

Featuring some of the biggest names from music industry, the organizers expect an audience of at least 30000. A scan through the list and one gets the magnitude of the concert, you have Mukti N’ Revival, Robin & The New Revolution, Nima Rumba, Adrian Pradhan, Rubicon, Nepsydaz, Uglyz, B-Boying and Dj Nawang all sharing the same stage, and the best thing you can be a part of this musical extravaganza for FREE. The event will also have different informative, corporate, entertainment, food and beverages stalls. Money well spent if you ask us, the part of fund raised will be used for various clean up campaigns, donating dust bins and planting trees in the city.

It is not necessary that we do a lot, it is just necessary that we do something!! Let’s all converge this June 5th at Baneshwor and be a part of this worthy cause, in doing so you will become part of the worldwide movement to celebrate the environmental richness that makes up the planet today, as well as creating awareness for a better tomorrow.
