Hemanta Rana in his own words

February 4th, 2010

I started my professional music career from the year 2060. Music has been my passion since my early childhood, but I never imagined hailing from my village Bardiya that I would ever get recognized in a big city like Kathmandu.

I initially started my music genre from Sufi. I have deep respect for the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and he is the very reason that I am in this genre of music. Sufi singing is very complicated and I realized that I need more professional practice and framing of my vocals, so I packed my bags and came to Kathmandu following my dream and passion.

When I first arrived in Kathmandu I was lost and didn’t know where to go. I was left with only one option and that was to make my living with what I knew best ’singing’. I started singing in restaurants and bars so I could earn and sharpen my singing skills and as it turned out singing in restaurants and bars has been a blessing.

Besides singing I’d like to divert your attention to my other passion and that is my love for the sport called ‘wushu’. Before I started my singing career I was actively participating in this sport in different districts, regional and national tournaments. Along with my love for this sport I was so into singing that I was given an ultimatum for choosing either wushu or singing. My choice was obvious, I dared to pursue my career in singing even though it still hurts till this day that I gave up wushu. But I have no regrets

“Laijaa Re” is my second album, my first was titled ‘Paap Punya”. Paap Punya gave me the much needed start in this field which was well received by the audience and gave me a certain recognition. My second album “Laijaa Re” which will be releasing soon is the outcome of my perseverance and hard work.. I have tried to introduce a different genre in this album from pop, classical and RnB.

Lastly I would like to thank all my well wishers and I am hoping you will listen to the efforts I have put in this album and will hopefully like it.
