“Hello! This is Astha B…. “, that husky voice conjured up quite a vision. And we were not disappointed when she made an appearance in person. Pretty face adorned by them deep almond eyes and soft pillowy lips, she has that quintessential pop material look, instant brownie points!! And she doesn’t disappoint in the vocal aspect of the game.
Now with so many Astha’s in the block, what is the latest Aastha doing these days? Let’s catch her on it…
Q: The obvious, why music?
Astha: Music is my love, it’s who I am. Music is the thing that strikes my heart and my mind. It’s my passion, my pride…everything!!
Q: You knew from day 1 that you wanted to be in entertainment field. What was the click? What made you feel that way?
Astha: Like I said, music always held a fascination for me… I was drawn to it from an early age. Everybody in my family, friends appreciated my voice, and that just fueled my desire to be a singer. I listen to everything, from Nepali, Hindi to English.
Q: What motivates you, to keep the music going? Where does all your inspiration come from?
Astha: Love for your work comes before anything; my passion for music has to be the motivational drive. It’s what drives you, motivates you and brings about action for creation. I listen to a lot of western music, so it won’t be wrong to say, I’m inspired by them.
Q: Your first single ‘ ankhama ansu’ has been on the radio for some time. How did you feel the first time you heard it?
Astha: Wow… that was something!! It was so surreal, almost an out of body experience; I can’t explain it, but let’s say it left me breathless. I still get goose-bumps.
Q: What is the most demanding aspect, of being Astha B. the singer?
Astha: It has to be creating and managing the identity that is truly and only Astha B, the singer. I believe you should be able to reinvent yourself and evolve with the time.
Q: When do you experience the most joy?
Astha: Manifestation of one’s dream, always a joyous moment; for me it was the release of my album, nothing can top that. Well dreams really can come true…. If you desire something, go for it.
Q: What is the best advice you have received in your career?
Astha: Life is a series of ups and downs. Every aspect of life is governed by that. We tend to either be in a state of complete happiness or dwell on all that is wrong. You have to learn to move on and learn from your mistakes. That’s the way it is… Live, Learn and Move on.
Q: What is the single event that has changed you and the way you view life?
Astha: It was the day when I released my album; it just made me a believer in the power to dream. I think that if you put your heart, mind, time, and all of your will power to something … you can do it.
Q: Make a wish, what would it be?
Astha: Music will always be my first priority, my first love. So definitely my wish hangs around my musicology. Ummm to be the best in the field, and create my own identity that’ll be admired and maybe emulated? (smiles) (Hmmm… after all imitation is the best form of flattery… right??)
Q: Any last words you’d want to add?
Astha: My album has been a journey of self exploration, and it’s been a wonderful learning experience. And it won’t be complete without your support and love. Your feedback is highly appreciated. And please do support Nepali music industry.
