Thrashing to Scratching
January 28th, 2010
Only few weeks back we discovered an alter ego of DJ Raju…the other side of the Chyanba hitmaker that knew how to thrash the drums in the metal band Wrathchild which we were absolutely not aware of before. Yet it was pleasantly surprising to know about it. So how can we let our beat master go without explaining about two of his contrasting features: Drumming and DJing. Well, the history goes all the way back to 1994, when DJ Raju along with his band was in Germany. There, they had a foreign keyboardist who also happened to be a Disc Jockey. It was definitely something new for the drummer back then. So he wanted to give it a try and decided to learn the skill of spinning, mixing and scratching… But he adds, it wasn’t anything seriously intentional…simply “fate” working its magic. Later when they returned to Nepal the very year, he had a chance to perform at one of his friends’ newly opened club and all like they say is history.
Now coming back to the present, DJ Raju’s latest album is already out in the market in case you didn’t know since it wasn’t released officially. Consisting of four remixes and four original tracks, the set is called 2.0. Wow, what a title, right?!! So, here’s doing our dutiful job of filling your curiosity. He likes to take his album as a computer software…The point increases with every other launch of a new version. Wise, eh? Anyway, talking about the remixes, he’s chosen to remake some of the finest golden oldie tunes: ”Timro Tyo Hasilo”, “Lahana Le”, “Mohani Lagla Hai”, etc.
Okay then here comes the most exciting part of today’s gossip. DJ Raju had worked on an experimental track called “Madalu” which fuses the peppy beats of our own instrument Madal with the exhilarating feel of Electro House and has collected much of good response. Well the song’s done but not its music video!! So our man is thinking of coming up with a competition that will give the audience to come up with their own video for the single!!! That’s what I call real satisfying publicity…Gotta admit, it’s going to be a win-win situation…However, at the moment, you’ll have to wait a little longer before things get started and that should give you enough time to prepare your SHOT!
