Nepathya holds onto their roots

“As our society heads to a peaceful and prosperous future with the new constitution being written, we wanted to come up with a fun-filled romantic album, but the current situation inspired us otherwise. This album has ended up being patriotic, one yearning for peace,” said Amrit Gurung, front man of Nepathya. A guy who stays away from the media frenzy, (but not really because he’s shy) Amrit Gurung was hard to pin down. But we managed it, that too on location for the video shoot of his song Kasaile Sodhe, which is being directed by Bhusan Dahal in the Bhainsepati hills.
“My new album has nothing different. I’d like people to listen to it first and then decide for themselves because this is for them. I cannot force them to buy or listen to my songs. They’ll judge my music,” said a humble Amrit, who wore a Nepali dhaka topi that didn’t quite cover his grey hair. When asked if dyeing his hair is in his plan book, he guffawed.
Back to the album. It contains eight tracks, some new and some from the band’s back catalogue selected to match the theme of the album. The title of the album – Mero Desh – comes from the poem by Vikram Subba.
Nepathya fans have waited long enough for this album. When questioned about his three-year hiatus, Amrit said, “We were supposed to release this album last year but we couldn’t because of unavoidable circumstances. We completed this a year ago and our next album is ready for release too, which will probably come out next year.” And true to their original intentions, Nepathya will be giving us music with love and fun all over again. What more can we ask for?
A free soul who loves travelling and trekking, Amrit Gurung has come a long way through pure hard work and enthusiasm and his love for music. Having left his hometown Pokhara to pursue music back in 1987, Amrit has boosted Nepathya’s fan following immeasurably. Produced and released by nepa~laya, Mero Desh is available in the market and is being distributed by Ranjana Cassettes.
